Running Accomplishments:

My very first race was the Top of Utah Half Marathon.  I finished in 01:29:45.  Even though it wasn't amazing, I took 3rd place in my age division which was a huge accomplishment for myself.  After that I did a large amount of 5 and 10K's, Ragnar's, etc.  In 2012 I put together and Ultra Ragnar Team.  After this I started to focus on shorter races and worked towards running track with Utah State University.  As I was getting close to running with the team, I met Cody Draper.  He introduced me to trail running....I'm now a trail runner!  Just did my first ultra marathon two weeks ago...Logan Peak.  I finished in 5th place and got under my goal of 5 hours.  

 

Short-Term Running Goals:

In the next two years, I'd like to run a 50K and a 50 miler.  If those two races go well, I'd like to do the Bear 100 in 2 years from this summer.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm not sure how much of a goal this is...it's more of a wish that's way towards the stars.  I'd like to eventually get good enough that I have offers to be sponsored as a runner. But my actual long term goals are:

1. A 100 miler   2.  Win an ultra marathon.  3.  Be apart of the 80 year old marathon runner club

I'm single!  The only exciting thing going on in my life is I'm getting into trail running!

Did a simple run today on the roads and canal trail in Cornish.  Felt pretty good....but, I held back.  Kept it slow and short.  Scout Mountain, here I come!

Final run til Saturday.  Did the Crimson Trail with Tom.  He was dying...but he has heart.  He really pushed himself.  It was very hot today.  Looking forward to the race!

Well today was the day.  The Scout Mountain 100k.  Trained a lot, and took the whole week off to be ready for it.  My sleep wasn't the greatest the night before.  But that didn't get me down.

At the start, I was feeling good.  Nate and I were up towards the front of the pack.  Things were looking good.  We were going at a good pace, but also chatting and having fun.  About 4 miles in Erik caught up to us and we all had a good 10 miles together.  At the second aid station, Nate and I stopped to refuel and Erik took off.  Between this aid station and the next, the start of some terrible pukes, back pain, and low energy began.  Nate passed me and wished me luck.  I knew I was in trouble.  I seriously couldn't run.  

From mile 17 to 37, I was low on energy, in terrible pain, and was puking up whatever I ate or drank.  So naturally I got a little dehydrated (which took away even more energy).  About mile 34 I had to get off the trail, lay down and stretch/close my eyes.  "Well, come mile 40, I think I'm going to drop."  But lucky for me, I got a little energy on mile 37, and Erik's wife Shannon wasn't at mile 40.  Seriously, some weird energy came and I was able to pick up the pace.  A few runners were asking how I was able to go so fast.  So mile 37 to 53 was great.  But, on top of Scout, I got a horrible side ache.  I pushed myself for 2 miles and hoped it would go away...it didn't.  So, I got off the trail, laid down and did some crunches.  It helped!  The side ache left.  I was able to go at an average pace til the end.  

This was definitely the hardest race I've done.  Mentally, I was destroyed.  Erik got 4th and Nate got 9th.  Over at the Bryce 100, Cody got 1st.  Glad everyone else had a great day.

Did a group run with the guys tonight.  Went up to Card Canyon.  Kegan joined.  We went at an easy pace.  Cody did the full loop with Richards Hollow.  Kegan did an extra mile.  Erik and I were tired and did the Card Canyon loop only.  Great run

Went camping up Prov canyon last night with some friends....did a midnight hike with a girl....then got up at 6.  Very tired for today's run.  Nuckles parked at the bottom of prov, ran up while I ran down...then we met up, and headed up the mountain.  We went from prov, all the way up to Logan Peak.  Soaked in the view for a bit....then headed straight down the ridge to prov.

Went pretty slow.  Bush--wacked some, slipped on rocks....very slow pace.  Then we got to the bottom of prov and Nuckles left.  I headed back up the trail to camp....got up to camp, and my hammock and car were gone...everyone was gone.  I had no idea what to do....so, I walked down the road.  They were parked in the parking lot with my car.  Apparently they wanted to help me...so they parked by the Deer Fence trail and was gonna give me a ride.  But....we missed each other.  Oh well

Did some heat training today.  Went up Birch Canyon.  Best I've felt in weeks.  Was able to move at a decent pace without feeling terrible.  Might just do well at Logan Peak

Today was the Logan Peak race.  I was a little worried starting out.  Didn't get a lot of sleep the night before.  But my pre-race dinner was great (burger, fries and a brownie) and my breakfast was great (donut and a smootie).  

The race started on time....and right away, I was slightly worried about my pace....I was leading.  This was definitely the most I've actually ran up Dry Canyon.  I walk a lot of it.  My heart rate was averaging 174 on the way up.....but, I told myself I could keep that pace.  After about 1 hour and 15 minutes, a guy from Pennsylvania (he has never lost a race) passed me.  He got out of sight.  Cody, Erik and myself would rotate back and forth.  About 3 miles from the Peak, Cody pulled ahead.

On the road up to the Peak, Erik started gaining on me as well.  As the three passed me on the way down, I could see we were all pretty evenly split.  I had hopes of catching them.

But, I pushed myself a little too much at the start.  I ended up in 4th place.  If that Pennsylvania guy didn't show up, Cody, Erik and myself would've had our podium finishes.  Oh well, next year maybe.  With how I've been feeling lately, I'm super happy with the outcome.
