Running Accomplishments:

My very first race was the Top of Utah Half Marathon.  I finished in 01:29:45.  Even though it wasn't amazing, I took 3rd place in my age division which was a huge accomplishment for myself.  After that I did a large amount of 5 and 10K's, Ragnar's, etc.  In 2012 I put together and Ultra Ragnar Team.  After this I started to focus on shorter races and worked towards running track with Utah State University.  As I was getting close to running with the team, I met Cody Draper.  He introduced me to trail running....I'm now a trail runner!  Just did my first ultra marathon two weeks ago...Logan Peak.  I finished in 5th place and got under my goal of 5 hours.

Short-Term Running Goals:

In the next two years, I'd like to run a 50K and a 50 miler.  If those two races go well, I'd like to do the Bear 100 in 2 years from this summer.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm not sure how much of a goal this is...it's more of a wish that's way towards the stars.  I'd like to eventually get good enough that I have offers to be sponsored as a runner. But my actual long term goals are:

1. A 100 miler   2.  Win an ultra marathon.  3.  Be apart of the 80 year old marathon runner club

Personal:

I'm single!  The only exciting thing going on in my life is I'm getting into trail running!

Another easy day to be ready for this weekends race.  Took the lower canal trail to the upper canal trail.  Not a lot happened.

Today JJ and Knuckles wanted to join me for my run. Ethan also wanted to give trail running a shot.  Ethan only wanted to do four miles so JJ and I met up at green canyon and took the BST over to the first part of the upper canal trail.  Unfortunately the canal trail appears to be shutting down because all of the local idiots are using graffiti on the trail.  But we took the BST back to green.  Then Knuckles and Ethan met us and we did four easy miles of green.  It was a good run.

Took it nice and easy today.  Did the canal trail by the temple and stuck to that.  The Scout Mtn Ultra is this Saturday.  I feel prepared and ready to finish my first 100K!

Today was the day.  The Scout Mountain 100k

The race started with me having a HORRIBLE nights rest.  3 hours max.  For breakfast I had some jerkey and powerade (experimented in hopes to not get my morning sickness).  The race started at 5 a.m.

Cody, Joe and I started out fast.  We were up with Darcy Africa and the rest of the gang for the first few miles.  I was worried I was pushing myself too much.  After about 12 miles, I felt the morning sickness and exhaustion hit me.  I slowed down A LOT.  Cody eventually left me and Joe in the dust (Joe left me as well).  The next two aide stations saved me.  I took my time drinking sprite and eating fruits.  My sickness left and my pace came back to me.  I eventually passed Joe (he ended up quitting at mile 47 cause of heat exhaution) and many others.

By about mile 40 I met a man named Matt.  We ended spending pretty much the rest of the race together.  He's a great guy.  He pushed me on the downhill (my quad gave out and hurt my knee...I had to walk every down hill) and I pushed him on the uphill.  By the time we reached the peak of Scout, he left me cause I had to take it REALLY slow.  It got to the point where I loved the uphill cause I was able to make up a lot of time.

Eventually the finish line came and I finished my first 100k.  It felt great.  Matt only beat me by 7 minutes.  Cody did great and finished around 11 hours and 20 minutes.  Great race

Did the BST to Green with JJ.  He did six of it with me but then turned around.  I am still feeling it in the legs from SMUT.  Didn't go that fast.  Saw 2 snakes....those creatures suck a ton.  Another un-eventful run.

Did the lower Canal Trail and went up to the start of the BST.  The upper canal trail is officially closed.  Very frustrating.  Slow and boring run however.  Not a lot to write about

Did the Wellsville's today with Joe and Cody.

This was my first time up the Wellsvilles and it was so awesome.  I wonder why I've never gone up there before.  It was quite the climb.  We did a lot of hiking...especially since all three of us were pretty tired and sore still from SMUT.  We made it to Hawk Watch, Box Elder and Mendon Peak.  Also made it to the Wellsville Cone.

It was really fun also because we took a lot of pictures and made it a lot less intense than usual.  Cody took a fall on the way down but shook it off and kept up the pace.  It was pretty windy and chilly up top as well.  Overall, a great run.  My favorite mountain range in Cache Valley by far.

This week I'm on a trip in Zion for work. I was able to get away for a short run. Did the Kanarraville Falls run. Very very pretty. A few creek crossings and one steep section. Beautiful area.

Met Cody up High Creek canyon this morning. I felt it getting out of bed....this work week was super tiring. Cody was feeling burnt out and sore from Scout still (same here). So, we took it nice and easy. Towards Cherry Creek lake snow started to appear. We could tell that it was going to be a fun run down. We eventually got to the top of Cherry Peak and took a nice rest. Very pretty area. Then the fun began. On the way down we were able to get some fun glissading in. That was so fun. Fell on my butt a few times and just shot down the side of the mountain. Very awesome. We eventually got back and called it a day.

Today Cody and I did some trail service up at Snow Basin. There was a group of about 15 of us. It was a very very hot and tiring day. I forgot food and was low on sleep. But by three we were done. Then what? Cody was feeling like running and naturally we ran. We were both feeling super tired and went very slow. Today was pretty long but now I can sign up for the Bear 100!

Woke up feeling much better today.  Ended up going to work and running when I got back.  My stomach was still a little sensitive but I was able to get a solid 6 mile run in.  JJ from work joined me.  We went up and did part of the Ephraims Grave Cut Off trail.  I feel that we did an ok pace considering I was feeling a little sloshy in the stomach still.  Felt good to be active again.

Today was race day-

I had high hopes for this race.  I've been training a lot and had a goal to get in the top 3.  Well, right when my alarm went off I knew things would be tough.

My stomach was all sorts of messed up for this race.  I had no energy and felt like puking for pretty much all of it.  The first mile I felt great.  I was actually leading the pack.  But then it went downhill.  I couldn't run the flats.  My stomach hurt and I wanted to crawl in a hole and die.

Heading up the road to the peak I kept looking for Cody, Joe and Fan.  I thought they'd be towards the front for sure.  But surprisingly they were only .5 miles ahead of me.  I guess all of us weren't feeling the greatest.

Going down I started feeling a little better.  Not enough though.  I passed Joe on the North Sincline.  Once I got back to Dry Canyon, I booked it down the mtn.  I ended up getting 4 min. faster than last year..and 6 places behind (11th place).  Not a great race.
