| Location: Logan,Ut,United States Member Since: Jul 14, 2013 Gender: Male Goal Type: Other Running Accomplishments: My very first race was the Top of Utah Half Marathon. I finished in 01:29:45. Even though it wasn't amazing, I took 3rd place in my age division which was a huge accomplishment for myself. After that I did a large amount of 5 and 10K's, Ragnar's, etc. In 2012 I put together and Ultra Ragnar Team. After this I started to focus on shorter races and worked towards running track with Utah State University. As I was getting close to running with the team, I met Cody Draper. He introduced me to trail running....I'm now a trail runner! Just did my first ultra marathon two weeks ago...Logan Peak. I finished in 5th place and got under my goal of 5 hours.
Short-Term Running Goals: In the next two years, I'd like to run a 50K and a 50 miler. If those two races go well, I'd like to do the Bear 100 in 2 years from this summer. Long-Term Running Goals: I'm not sure how much of a goal this is...it's more of a wish that's way towards the stars. I'd like to eventually get good enough that I have offers to be sponsored as a runner. But my actual long term goals are:
1. A 100 miler 2. Win an ultra marathon. 3. Be apart of the 80 year old marathon runner club Personal: I'm single! The only exciting thing going on in my life is I'm getting into trail running! |

| I never run Sunday's usually. But I've been thinking....physically, I feel gross and tired all Sunday. I know that running makes me feel better. So, I decided I'd start doing Short, Slow Sunday Strolls. 2-3 mile runs at a slow pace and low heart rate. I feel it's a leizure activity and it makes me feel good. So, I'm justifying it and saying it's a good Sunday activity for me. Did Birch Creek/first 2 prymids of the 7. Nice, easy, enjoyable stroll

| Today was the Red Mountain 50K. I was very excited for this race coming into it. I felt in shape, felt like I tapered perfectly, and was ready to place in the top 3.
The race was in St. George. Starting out, it was pretty chilly. I was just in my race jersey and shorts. So, I was extra cold. Low 40's was the temp. The race started, and I was up front leading the pack alongside Logan (not sure his last name....on the race team and Cody Draper used to run with him). My heart rate was 165 so I knew I should have slowed down....but, I felt good and wanted to stay up front. But after a mile I decided that I wasn't going to be stupid....I slowed down and got my heart rate to 157 and kept it around there. The course was super confusing. There were different colored loops and they all came back to the same aid station....5 loops to be exact. There was a 30K and a half marathon going on at the same time and we all had different loops at different times. The loops were very close to each other....so I'd see some random person in front of me...try to catch up, then find out that they were on a different loop. So, really, I had no idea what place I was in for the entire race. At one point I tripped on a rock, scraped my hand up and broke the strap on my water bottle holder...that ticked me off. The scenery was great. Such a pretty area. Come the final 10 miles, I saw someone in front of me that I knew was doing the 50K...he was about 2 minutes in front of me...and I was going to catch him. I wanted 6th place (I thought I was in 7th). After the last aide station, I flew out and tried to catch him. He was about thirty seconds in front of me. After he went arond a corner, I came around and followed the arrows to the right. Had another hill to climb...WHAT?! I could have sworn that it was flat til the finish. After I came over the little hill, I started running down and looked around. The course looked extremely familiar. I looked over and saw a green flag...what?! That was the color of the first loop. I went the wrong way. Gosh danget! I probably only did an exra .50 mile. So I lost about 4 minutes. I pushed myself as hard as I could to the finish...bonked a little....but as I crossed the finish line, I found out I finished 3rd! Sweet....top 3! The guy in front of me finished 3 minutes before me....so, I could have potenitally passed him.....ugh. But, it was a fun race and beautiful day. Next up, Zion 100!

| Did a long run today with Nuckles. Did the same run Cody, Fan and I did on my birtday. Went from 1st dam and took BST North and hung around Cedar Hill, Dry Canyon, Birch and Smithfield Canyon....then came back. I bonked, Nuckles had IT band issues, and the downhills were very muddy....slow run. But, it was amazing weather. I got super sun burned.

| Had a job interview with Ragnar today in SLC. Decided I wanted to do a new trail so I took my running gear. Did the Bonneville trail along with some of the Bobsled trail. Some good climbing and great views of the city. If I move to SLC, I'll definitely do that trail a lot

| Did a faster run with Nuckles today. Something is up with his aerobic performance. I think he just goes out too hard. He ran 1 mile shorter and had to slow down quite a bit. I was feeling good though so I pushed it fairly hard. Did River Trail with Spring Hollow to the look out. Great run

| Did a slower run today....but a lot of climbing. Ran from my house to the mouth of green. Took the saddleback trail and went a mile up. Then headed down, and went over to the face of green and went 1.5 miles up that. I don't really like my Salomon shoes anymore....bad tread and my feet were pretty sore during it.

| Did an unofficial race today with some local trail runners. John Hernandez put it together. Erik, Cody, Fan, and Nate were there. It was named the WhistleDick run. Up and down a ridge in Smithfield (a couple ridges). The race was only 8 miles....it ended on top of the mountain so the 10 miles is from the 2 mile run down the mountain after the race. I finished in 2nd. Erik was first. It was fun run. Glad I joined. Also, I finally beat Cody! Too bad he's injured and it wasn't an official race....didn't really feel the glory I was expecting

| Did a longer run today. Was planning on hitting the trails....but, it was raining a lot and snowing in the mountains. So, I figured I could run out to Cornish and see my family, then ride back in with my brother and his daughters (they were gonna be going into Logan to see Cinderella). So, I loaded a back pack with clothes and shoes, and ran to Cornish. I was going pretty quick. The back pack was hurting my back and restricting my breathing. I could have went quicker...but, it was still a solid pace. I hate the road....one of my least favorite runs....just too much road
