| Location: Logan,Ut,United States Member Since: Jul 14, 2013 Gender: Male Goal Type: Other Running Accomplishments: My very first race was the Top of Utah Half Marathon. I finished in 01:29:45. Even though it wasn't amazing, I took 3rd place in my age division which was a huge accomplishment for myself. After that I did a large amount of 5 and 10K's, Ragnar's, etc. In 2012 I put together and Ultra Ragnar Team. After this I started to focus on shorter races and worked towards running track with Utah State University. As I was getting close to running with the team, I met Cody Draper. He introduced me to trail running....I'm now a trail runner! Just did my first ultra marathon two weeks ago...Logan Peak. I finished in 5th place and got under my goal of 5 hours.
Short-Term Running Goals: In the next two years, I'd like to run a 50K and a 50 miler. If those two races go well, I'd like to do the Bear 100 in 2 years from this summer. Long-Term Running Goals: I'm not sure how much of a goal this is...it's more of a wish that's way towards the stars. I'd like to eventually get good enough that I have offers to be sponsored as a runner. But my actual long term goals are:
1. A 100 miler 2. Win an ultra marathon. 3. Be apart of the 80 year old marathon runner club Personal: I'm single! The only exciting thing going on in my life is I'm getting into trail running! |

| Tested out my new Brooks Ghost 6 today. They are pretty awesome. I love them! Did my normal road run....dave's grave, hyde park and back...with an extra mile. Went at a fast pace. Felt great! Especially the warm 40 degree weather.

| Did a slower run today. Did green canyon and then decided to go up the face. I must say, I bonked on the way up the face. When I got to the top, I just fell to the ground and started eating snow. I was in desperate need for water. The run down was very slippery and bumpy.

| Did Green today. Was going to go half a mile further than normal to end up getting 10 miles instead of nine. But the trail after the fence was horrible. So I turned around and headed back and after half a mile, I turned around and repeated the top portion to get the extra mile. Went at an alright pace. My legs were pretty tired from yesterday's work out. Temperature was good. All around a good day.

| Today my legs were probably the sorest they've ever been on a run. Today was definitely a training run to prepare me for the final miles of the Bear 100. I did not want to run at all. But I eventually finished and the pace didn't end up being as slow as I thought it'd be.

| Today it snowed finally! Green canyon had a good amount of fresh powder on it. That made it a little difficult to get any speed at all. My back is super super sore though. The trail was pretty uneven which made it a little hard on the body. But, it was still fun. Went with Cody. What a good guy. He's a champ. Very good run overall

| Did green canyon today....simply put, the trail was awful. Very slippery. Couldn't get any good grip. Had to truck through some deep snow. Eventually i just turned around and did 2 miles on the road. There were tons of snow shoers but that didn't help much. Wasn't that great of a run.

| Did a long road run with Cody today. Started at the tabernacle, took the back roads in river heights, providence and mendon. Ended up about a mile away from the mouth of black smith fork canyon then headed back. Had a killer side ache for a good eight miles of it. Hit the wall with about seven miles left. The weather was awesome. Very warm. Very good work out today...felt like crap towards the end but still great.

| Woke up this morning and was planning on doing a short six mile run. But as I got out I decided to push it a little bit. Decided to mix it up a bit and do dry canyon. I went up two miles, then turned around and headed down a mile. Then went up a mile and came back down a mile. I did this 4 times. Quite the climb. About two miles up, my knee was hurting a little...nothing to really worry about I thought. As soon as I got to the top and headed back down, my knee and quad locked up and was in extreme pain. I had to stop every half mile to stretch and get the pain to go down. Then I'd kind of hobble/jog another half mile before stopping again. Probalby will take all of next week off. | Today ended up being a big work out day. Woke up and decided to only do 6 miles so I can study for my stats test. Also did a pretty intense cross fit work out. Then Cody was going CC Skiing. So i went to the ORP and rented a pair. That was kinda fun.. It was my first time and apparently the snow wasn't the greatest for it. Then right after that, I had a basketball game where there was only 4 of us...so there was a lot of running for 32 minutes. Definitely felt the effects of today.

Cody cracked a pretty funny joke as we were peeing on the top of SV hill. Weather was amazing. Shorts and a tee shirt.

| Did a long run today with Cody! Got up at 5:30 AM and traveled to Antelope Island. There were a lot of people out on the trail: bikers and runners...even horse riders. We did the 50K course...2 loops around the island. The whole run was very windy. Had to wear a jacket for the first loop. But as the sun came up for the second loop, we were able to shed the jackets. As we were running, we were able to pass a few herds of Buffalo. Sometimes we got about 5 ft away. That sure made things interesting and suspensful. Cody got chased by one on mile 31. That was funny to hear about (Cody finished a little bit before me). It was a great run! Glad I went

| Went on a run today. A way WINDY run. I did the apt to BST to Upper canal trail. As I was on the upper canal trail, the wind almost blew me off the edge at one point. It was so windy. I felt good however til about mile 5. The rest of the way back, my knee KILLED. I think I'm going to take tomorrow off just to be safe. Need to be ready for the Zion 100K!

| Haven't ran since Monday! However, I met with an athletic trainer at USU. She told me I have "patellar tracking problem." Apparently my knee doesn't rotate the way it should. I need to get a patellar brace and leukotape. The tape and brace is supposed to help my knee rotate correctly. Went 4 miles today. Could tell that the brace helps. My knee felt much more sturdy than it has the past couple of weeks. Hopefully this solution will help me finish Zion next week!

| Well today was the day that I was preparing for. Coming into the race, I got some good training in. I was super excited. Got my knees braced and taped up at 5 a.m. Went with Joe and Jenny to Virgin to check in. Karl M. was there which was pretty intimidating. Anyway, the race started right at 6
The first seven miles were great. Was up with Joe and Cody. We were having fun. Went to the first aid station feeling great. Cody Joe and I left the aid station together.
At about mile 10 there was a good steep downhill for two miles...on pavement. Instinantly....my knees began to hurt. Cody and Joe slowly got ahead of me.
By the time I got to the second aid station, my knees were in extreme pain. I left the aid station and quickly had to stop running. I would adjust my brace, start running, and stop seconds later because of pain. At one point, I started running, and the pain left. I had hope that things were gonna work out. Well, about half a mile away from the next station, the knees were a little sore. Jenny told me that Cody and Joe were only 5-10 min ahead of me. I had hope I'd be able to stay up with them the whole race.
Well, the next section was awful. About 1-2 miles into this section, my right knee (which was supposedly the good knee out of the two) started to hurt A LOT. My left knee wasn't even hurting. I would run then walk then stop to adjust my brace multiple times on this section. But, I could only run for 10 seconds before having to stop because of pain. So, I just walked to the next aid station.
The next aid station was at the top of a huge hill. A very steep climb. I actually made some good time on this hill. Once I got to the top, Jenny told me that I was only about 20-30 min behind. I couldn't believe it. I still had hope.
The next section, that hope quickly left. Pretty much 100% of this section was rock....which sucked on the knees. But I was determined to finish. I was planning on speed walking the rest of the way. But, on mile 35, I could barely even walk. I was starting to realize that I was going to get my first DNF. I felt like crap.
Mile 38, my watch died
Mile 39, a lady on the Patagonia Race team walked up behind me. Her name was Kira (forgot the last). She was having hip issues and was planning on dropping at the next aid station with me. That made me feel a little better.
But, mile 40 came, along with the aid station, and I said the horrible words "I'm quitting." The rest of the day was pretty awful. I have never felt so disappointed before.
However, Joe and Cody did great. They both finished (Cody finished in 3rd). I'm very happy for them both.

| To start out, I went on a mtn bike ride up green. 11 miles in an hour and two minutes. Right when I got back, my roommates were gonna go for a little 3 mile run. So, me loving running and all decided to give it a try. I even suggested we do a trail...upper canal
The first half I went at a very slow pace because my rommates were going slower and I didn't wanna over do it and hurt my knee. On the way back a runner passed us. So, me being competitive, I decided I coudn't get beat. So I left my rommies and passed the guy. He didn't make it easy. He sped up and tried passing me. So we were both going at a pretty fast pace back to the gate. I won...that felt good haha. But, my knee was a little sore. I'm stupid and I know it.

| Decided to try and get back into things today. Cody invited me for a long evening run. We started at first dam and took the river trail to the wind caves trailhead. We then headed up the trail and cut right halfway up on the Bierdneau ridge trail. We then took that all the way up. Boy that was a brutal climb. We were planning on taking the other side down into green canyone...but, the other side was covered in snow and it was very difficult considering we sunk through the snow on every step. So we just turned around and headed back the way we came. Boy this was a brutal way to get back into running. But, the knees didn't hurt!!! I have high hopes that I'll be able to do the Scout Mtn 100k!

| Started out doing a bike ride up green for work. I fortunately was given the more in shape boys so I was able to lead the pack. We went at an alright pace. It snowed last night so the trail was pretty muddy...and about 2.5 miles up it was covered in snow. So, we turned around and went a mile down. But then we turned around and headed back up again. It was fun! Got covered in mud to! 6.7 miles, 48:25 time, 860 elevation
Finished the night with doing a pretty slow run. My legs were pretty tired from biking today and from Monday's run. Did BST over to first dam then took the canal trail to the Bridger Lookout trail. Definitely a slow run. It feels great getting back into it though!

| Went on a nine mile road run today. I went to Dave's grave and then did the northern BST over towards Hyde Park. Still went pretty slow today. But I'm not going to complain because I'm super glad that I've been able to run this week! Also did an intense leg workout in cross fit fifteen minutes after consisting of a lot of wall balls and jump roaping. I'm pretty tired.

I was planning on doing 22 miles today to get 80 miles for the week. But, I got held up at work and was there longer than planned. So, I only had time for 10 miles. But that's ok. | Decided to do a long run today. Got up and joined Cody at 5:30 a.m. We did the Canal trail from the temple to the Deer Fence Trail. We started heading towards Hyrum. Cody turned around at mile 7 to head back for work. I kept going. I went all the way to Blacksmith fork. I was planning on turning back there but my bowels were going crazy. I was actually afraid of pooping my pants. So, I went an extra couple miles to my sisters house. I was there for a while. My stomach was really messed up. But, I did my duty and headed back. It was a great run. I am very happy to be able to be running again.

| Well, school is out for the summer! So I decided to go for a long run before work today. The goal was to do 30 miles...and I made it! I started out going from first dam over to green canyon. I then headed up to the fence. Once I got to the top I turned around and headed back to first dam. As I got to the upper canal trail, I decided to head up towards second dam. Once I got there I turned around and headed back to the car. When I got back it was mile 17. I got water and food then headed back out. I decided to make it simple and do BST to the top of green and back again. The weather was excellent for a 30 miler.

| Woke up this morning to rain. I was thinking that I would go about ten miles shorter than planned because of how wet it was. But by nine it started to stop raining. So, I headed out. Currently my car has a flat tire so I just started from my apartment. I went up to the BST and headed to first dam. Then I took the upper canal trail and connected to the River trail. Then I started heading to Crimson trail. By about second dam it started to rain again. But I figured a little rain wouldn't hurt. I started heading up the Crimson trail and by the time I got to the top it started to pour. It even started to start dropping those weird hard flakes of snow. The wind picked up. I tripped over a rock and broke the strap to my water bottle while cutting my knee up. I was then all muddy and bloody. I started feeling pretty miserable (not to mention my legs were DEAD tired by mile 8). So, about 3/4 of the way through the Crimson trail I decided to call it good and head back. My plan was to do the whole Crimson trail and then head up to Beardnieu Peak. But, I figured considering everything, 21 miles for the day would do. But by the time I got back to second dam it started to clear up again. So, when I got over to green canyon, I headed up and did that whole trail (to the fence). By the time I got back to my apartment, it started to rain again. This definitely wasn't the funnest run but it was a great training run for the Bear 100.

| This week I'm on my cruise! I brought my shoes just in case I wanted to go for a run. The ship went to Catalina Island today. So I decided to check the area out. I went to the visitor info. booth and they gave me a map. The Trans Catalina Trail, 37 miles, was supposed to go over the whole island. So I decided to check out what I could. I was so amazed at how much easier it was to breath at sea level. It was such a difference. The island was so pretty. So much to see. I was trying to find some monument on the trail but it would've been an extra four miles to get to it and I was SUPER HOT. I was so thirsty and didn't have water. So I headed back. I could've went faster but I seriously thought I was going to collapse from lack of water. But I made it. Took my shirt off which was stupid...I got a narly sun burn. Great run. I'm going to try and add pictures.

| Went to a friends cabin last night by bear lake. Woke up this morning and went for a trail run around the mountains in Garden City. It wasn't my most favorite run. There were a lot of branch off's and many of the trails I took ended randomly. My legs were also super super super tired from Saturday's run. The highlight of the run was at the first: saw a cow moose on the trail. I probably got within 20 ft of it. It finally just turned around and trotted off. Very hot run. Got a nice burn on the arms

| Today was the day. The Scout Mountain 100k
The race started with me having a HORRIBLE nights rest. 3 hours max. For breakfast I had some jerkey and powerade (experimented in hopes to not get my morning sickness). The race started at 5 a.m.
Cody, Joe and I started out fast. We were up with Darcy Africa and the rest of the gang for the first few miles. I was worried I was pushing myself too much. After about 12 miles, I felt the morning sickness and exhaustion hit me. I slowed down A LOT. Cody eventually left me and Joe in the dust (Joe left me as well). The next two aide stations saved me. I took my time drinking sprite and eating fruits. My sickness left and my pace came back to me. I eventually passed Joe (he ended up quitting at mile 47 cause of heat exhaution) and many others.
By about mile 40 I met a man named Matt. We ended spending pretty much the rest of the race together. He's a great guy. He pushed me on the downhill (my quad gave out and hurt my knee...I had to walk every down hill) and I pushed him on the uphill. By the time we reached the peak of Scout, he left me cause I had to take it REALLY slow. It got to the point where I loved the uphill cause I was able to make up a lot of time.
Eventually the finish line came and I finished my first 100k. It felt great. Matt only beat me by 7 minutes. Cody did great and finished around 11 hours and 20 minutes. Great race

| Did the Wellsville's today with Joe and Cody.
This was my first time up the Wellsvilles and it was so awesome. I wonder why I've never gone up there before. It was quite the climb. We did a lot of hiking...especially since all three of us were pretty tired and sore still from SMUT. We made it to Hawk Watch, Box Elder and Mendon Peak. Also made it to the Wellsville Cone.
It was really fun also because we took a lot of pictures and made it a lot less intense than usual. Cody took a fall on the way down but shook it off and kept up the pace. It was pretty windy and chilly up top as well. Overall, a great run. My favorite mountain range in Cache Valley by far.

| Met Cody up High Creek canyon this morning. I felt it getting out of bed....this work week was super tiring. Cody was feeling burnt out and sore from Scout still (same here). So, we took it nice and easy. Towards Cherry Creek lake snow started to appear. We could tell that it was going to be a fun run down. We eventually got to the top of Cherry Peak and took a nice rest. Very pretty area. Then the fun began. On the way down we were able to get some fun glissading in. That was so fun. Fell on my butt a few times and just shot down the side of the mountain. | Today was race day-
I had high hopes for this race. I've been training a lot and had a goal to get in the top 3. Well, right when my alarm went off I knew things would be tough.
My stomach was all sorts of messed up for this race. I had no energy and felt like puking for pretty much all of it. The first mile I felt great. I was actually leading the pack. But then it went downhill. I couldn't run the flats. My stomach hurt and I wanted to crawl in a hole and die.
Heading up the road to the peak I kept looking for Cody, Joe and Fan. I thought they'd be towards the front for sure. But surprisingly they were only .5 miles ahead of me. I guess all of us weren't feeling the greatest.
Going down I started feeling a little better. Not enough though. I passed Joe on the North Sincline. Once I got back to Dry Canyon, I booked it down the mtn. I ended up getting 4 min. faster than last year..and 6 places behind (11th place). Not a great race.

| Didn't have my watch for this run. Was at work today and expecting to go biking with the boys. However, when we got to the trail, one of the boys forgot his helmet. So, since I head my Altra's on, I gave him my helmet and ran with the group. The boys were super impressed that I could run faster than most of them could bike (little do they know that it is easier to run uphill than bike). I even beat a lot of them going downhill. | Did a 4th of July run with Cody today (well we planned to run). We were both super tired and sore so we ended up hiking a lot. We started in Mantua and headed up to Ben Lomond (the original plan). We only ended going up to Willard Peak. Cody was tired and his insides weren't feeling the greatest. I was just tired and felt like puking. When we got to Willard Peak I started feeling a lot better. So Cody and I split up. I wrapped around the southern side of the peak and Cody headed straight down the way we came up. On the other side I saw a heard of about 8 mtn goat. That was cool. I eventually caught Cody. Poor guy...he looked terrible. I kept going. I eventually got to where we started and about 5 min. later Cody showed up. I guess on mile 14 he found couple on an ATV and caught a ride down. Wasn't the best run in the world...or trail...super technical and overgrown. But, it was good to get out.

| Today was the Speedgoat 50K. I was a little worried that I'd do a terrible job considering my night last night. We couldn't find a camping spot so we just parked on the side of the road. Joe and Jenny slept in the car and I rolled my sleeping bag out and slept on the pavement. Between that and hearing a bunch of college students arguing about who should drive home (at 3 a.m.) I just didn't sleep that well.
Anyway, at 6:30 the race began. I decided to take this race a little slower at the first. I read an article saying that you preform better if you start out slower than if you start out too hard. So I decided to try that. The first 8 miles were pretty intense. Straight up to the peak. I met a man named Kyle. He had the same race vest on that I did so we started talking. It was fun talking to him. He's a great guy. Once we got to the top we started our long run back down a couple thousand feet. On the way down I saw Cody and Beth observing. It would have been better seeing him running with me.
Once we got to the bottom of the next valley we started going up again for a couple miles. After that, we began a pretty terrible run down the otherside. Super super rocky for a good two miles. I was trying very hard to not roll an ankle.
After the next aid station, we had another solid six miles uphill. I was feeling pretty great at this point. Holding back helped my usual running sickness out. I never felt sick. Just completely dead considering there was a lot of climbing. As I was heading up, a good amount of poeple were passing me. It was really hard to hold back and not push myself more. But, as the race went on, I slowly found myself passing them and many more.
As we headed up to the peak again, there was a 1/2 mile to mile climb that was straight up. It was absolutley brutal. Towards the top Cody and Beth were there taking pcitures. It was nice talking to them for a brief minute.
Then I started heading over to the peak. Just as I about got there, the trail took off to the side and went right back down to another valley. Ugh...I thought most of the climbing was done. Once I got to the bottom, it was time to turn around and head straight back up. Wow oh wow was I tired. But again, I was passing people which felt great.
As I got to the peak again I was so happy and ready to be done. 5 miles downhill was all that was left...I thought. Karl added an extra climb towards the end. It was a surprise and during a very hot time. Very brutal and annoying.
Finally, after some surprise and very long switchbacks, I finished. 58th place. My goal was top 100 and I achieved that. I was very happy to be done.

| Woke up and planned on doing an 18 mile run....Leatham Hollow to Richards Hollow loop. Mapped it out on Map my Ride and everything. Well, I ended up getting a little lost and did 27 miles. On the way up Leatham I was feeling good. About six miles away from the start I ran into a pleasant surprise...a spring. Little did I know that that spring would save me again later on the run.
Towards the top of the road, about 2 miles from the spring, I ran into some ATV riders. I felt a little lost and flagged them down and asked how to get to Richards Hollow. They gave me directions and off I went. Well, they either gave crappy directions or I suck at following them....before I knew it, I recognized where I was running. But, I wasn't expecting to recognize the Logan Peak Trail run course. According to my memory, I was 2.5 miles away form the peak. So, I changed my route in my mind and decided to go to the peak.
Another miracle happened...ATV riders stopped and gave me a bottle of Aquafina water. Those great people. That was a huge life saver. Got to the peak and took a nice break. I've been to the Peak 2 other times...during the race. I never had the chance to sit and enjoy the view. Today, I was able to do that.
So, I headed back. It was so hot. That spring saved my life. Got to the spring, and drank and drank and drank. Probably too much but I didn't care.
The run finally ended, and I got 9 extra miles in. Even though it wasn't what I planned, today's run was quite enjoyable.

| Today was the El Vaquero Loco. Had a decent sleep for this one. Compared to speedgoat, this was great. Slept in my hammock and wasn't interuppted by drunk people.
The race started and I was in the top 10 the whole race. On the way up to Balls I ran with a man named Chirs. Super friendly guy. I got to the top around 54 minutes and then took off down Balls. Cody was at the first aid station helping out. It was good to see him (wish he was running). Things were great for the next few miles.
Once I got to the top of the long downhill to the halfway mark, I took off. I passed people and got to the halfway point in 5 place. As I left the halfway point I was following 4 place for a good while. But, I started to get tired, and got passed by three people. Now I was in 8. I was feeling a little discouraged cause I thought I was going really slow (at the end of the race I found out I was right on pace).
I was trailing 7 place for the whole last half. But, once we got to the top of balls, I took off and went flying into the finish. I wanted to get under 6 hours, but I'm not going to get picky. Overall, this was a great race and I'm pleased with the results.

| One of the boys from worked was approved to horse ride once a week. So I took him out to Cornish to let him ride my dad's horses. While he was riding I did a little paved/dirt road run. After the first mile the boy got off to fix his saddle and the horse took off. So, I had to take a break and help get it. So that took away a couple miles from me.

| A group of friends wanted to hike Cherry Peak today. I tagged along so I could run it. The first part of it we all made a mistake and went left where we should have went right. It led us to a pretty cool waterfall though! After that we went back and then went where we were supposed to go. Because of time we didn't make it to the peak. I made it to just below the lake while everyone else made it to the wild flowers. I sat around and waited a lot for them. It was an ok run for effort....but amazing for the views.

| Did the Logan Peak Course today with Knuckles. I was very sore considering I did Cherry Peak Saturday and the race the week before that. Knuckles hasn't been running much so he was sore as well. At about mile 8 we stopped at the spring to fill up. A minute after the Spanish Sheep Herder came by on his horse. He didn't know much english but that didn't stop him....he tried talking to us for a good 40 minutes. Haha it's amazing how long you can talk to someone using hand gestures and trying to guess what they are talking about. He is an awesome guy. Very fun. After that we took off. Knuckles was feeling terrible...so I went up to the turn off for the peak and waited. He got there and wanted to rest while I ran to the peak. So, I hurry and ran to the top then headed back down. The rest of the run was at a nice easy pace. Great run.

| Did a fun hike/run this morning with: Fan, Cody, Erik and Keagan. We went up dry canyon and headed to flat top. Not going to lie, going up dry was pretty darn miserable. The trail was overgrown. The plants and trees were covered with water from last night's rain storm. So, the first hour I was leading the pack...I was drenched. We all were drenched. It was quite cold. We got to flat top and it started warming up. I think it's safe to say that this is my favoirte peak by far. Such a pretty view. Then we headed down Birch canyon. That was fun. Fan, Erik and I took off and Cody and Keagan reared the back up. It was a great run. Nice having people to run with again.

| Did a big run today. Started at first dam and headed up the River trail. Nice and easy at first. Then, I did the Crimson Trail. Went pretty slow up and along that. After that, I headed across the highway towards the Wind Caves trail. Started heading up that. Halfway up I cut across on the trail that headed to Beirdneau Peak. Got to the top....feeling tired and hot...then headed down into green canyon. That trail is one of my favorite trails by far. It is so pretty, shady and fun. When I got to the mouth of green, I filled up with water and decided to add one more mile with a lot of vertical...so I headed up the face of green. Boy did I go slow. I was very winded and tired and felt like I was going to pass out. After that, I slowly headed down and cut across the BST to first dam. Great and hard run. At the mouth of green I met some 4 graders who just ran the BST. I guess for PE they get to go trail running every Friday. Lucky kids

| Did a labor day run....hike...with Cody and Fan today. We went up to the Wellsvilles via Rattlesnake Gulch. That was STEEP and very overgrown. Not really my favorite run. The view was incredible though. I bonked out towards the top. Definitely a slow run. Going down was just was hard...loose, rocky and steep. But it was great getting out with friends.

| Long run today. Started out with the intention of doing Logan Peak course backwards (without the peak). As I passed the North Sincline area, I noticed there were a lot of trees knocked over. I've never seen the area so cluttered. So, what happens? I get lost. The trees and ruble covered the trail and I couldn't find it. I was lost a good 15 minutes before I found it. Then, on the way back, I drank all my water and was relying on filling up at a spring that was about 8 miles away from the end....but, what happend? Got lost again. All the sudden I realized I was in Providence canyon. I suck with directions. Good, tiring run

| Took a break from running and did a bike race. Today was the Xterra for work. I wasn't planning on doing any of it...but some boys needed a biker for their team so I ended up doing it. That was a hard bike trail. Uphill the majority of the way. Way fun day. The boys did awesome and had a blast. Get this...one of the boys forgot his running shoes...so, instead of trail running in his basketball shoes...he ran barefoot...he ran 3.2 miles on a rocky trail with no shoes. Crazy kid

| Today was the day. The Bear 100. I didn't sleep that well the night before. But I was still stoked and ready for the race. We started heading up Dry Canyon. So, for the first 10 miles I had my normal morning sickness....stomach hurt and I had no energy at all. But, by the time I got to the top of Leatham Hollow, I felt great and cruised down the canyon. I got to the bottom and was greeted by my parents, Cody, Steve and Carson. It was cool seeing everyone. Plus, I was only 5 minutes off of the pace chart Cody set up for me. I decided to base my race off of my heart rate. I never looked at time or mileage. Just my heart rate. I tried to keep it around 150.
After, Leatham, I headed to Richard's Hollow. That was a pretty hot section. Again, I just looked at my heart rate...so I felt that I was going to slow since I didn't look at the time. But, by the time I got to Cowley, I found out that I was practically right on time. Beth and Josh were now with everyone. I quickly ate everything then headed out.
Eventually Ricks Canyon appeared. I started heading down but was much slower compared to Leatham. My quad was a little tight so I decided to take it easy. But, I guess I still wasn't too slow cause I showed up when expected. At this point Josh joined me.
We headed towards Temple. It was great having someone to talk to. Josh was doing excellent work. He would dump water out of his camelback on me. He was super positive. Excellent work. During this section, my knee started to hurt a little. But, I was able to keep going.
After Temple Fork, Josh and I headed up Blind Hollow. Man, it was so much better than last year. Last year was so muddy and slippery. But, we were cruising. We were passing quite a bit of people. I felt so good. But as soon as we started to descend down into Tony Grove, my knee was KILLING me. I had to wobble in. But I still had hope cause I was still on time.
After eating, changing shoes and getting mentally ready, Josh and I headed out of Tony Grove. Going down into White Pine DESTROYED my knee. Definitely had to go super slow. Going down Bunchgrass wasn't better. I had to walk most of it. I was very pissed. Josh was so nice...he was trying so hard to help me stay positive. Erik eventually passed us and gave me Ibuprofen. That helped out a lot. I was able to start moving quickly again. We got to Franklin Basin eventually.
I said goodbye to Josh and took Cody on. We headed towards Logan River. At the start, we were actually moving pretty quick. But, as soon as it started to have some descents, my knee acted up. Boy it was hard. We passed erik and his pacer. He was having some struggles. But eventually he caught up and passed us.
After Logan River aide, we took off...at a good pace again...cause it was uphill. But, as soon as the descent to Beaver came, my knee started KILLING. It was terrible. I was very very negative. Cody was a champ. I feel bad he had to put up with me. But Beaver came...and Nano, Austin and Colby were there with my parents. It was great seeing them. I didn't want to leave.
But, eventually we took off...I limped off. The next section was pretty terrible. It was uphill, but very long and never-ending. I was very tired. And it rained a little. But we got to Beaver Creek.
I was pretty cold. I put on two jackets and took off...slowly and not very excited about leaving. The next section was hard again....I was falling asleep while running. Cody gave me mtn dew...I drank skittles....nothing was helping. I was literally tripping over rocks and running all over the trail. Cody gave me his poles...and I was able to start moving again. We then rolled into Ranger Dip.
This place was pretty hard. I was tired, sore and cold. I did not want to leave. But, we did.
The climb out of Ranger Dip was terrible. So steep and muddy. As we were getting towrads the top, it started raining and lightening like crazy. It was pretty cool. But then, the nasty began. Going down the Mtn. towards the finish line was AWFUL. It was muddy, slippery, rainy, windy, cold...my knee was in so much pain. After what seemed like forever, Cody told me we've only gone two miles...that got me pissed at myself. So I tried picking the pace up. But it still went slow. The wind during the rain was terrible.
But, after lot's of complaining, and misery....we got to the bottom. And slowly jogged to the finish. Nano and Austin were there with my parents and Beth. It was great having support. I crossed the line with Cody and laid down immediately in the grass. 26 hours and 19 minutes.
I'm very disappointed I was on track for 23 hours and didn't get it cause of my knee...but, for my first 100...and being the youngest person to do the race this year, I'll take it. It was fun. Time to prepare for Hardrock or Wasatch...in like two weeks...I need a break.

Ha, so today for work I took him on a 15 mile run up Logan Canyon. Did part of the River Trail and then got on the highway (sense the marathon is a road run). He did great for the first 10 miles...but then he bonked...a lot. Ha I'm kinda worried about next weekend. Gonna take him for a 12 miler or so on Saturday.

| I was feeling pretty awesome today. I started running Green with the intent of getting in the 7's for pace. But, I was cruising (more than I have in a long long time). So, I set out for the course record. I got to the top of the trail with a 7:39 pace...and I was pretty proud of that. On the way down, I got it down to 6:59...I'm very happy to know I still can run faster if I feel good. Great run.

| Today was the day. The boy from work had his marathon today. I didn't mark this as a race cause we went a lot slower than my pace. I was just there for support. FYI....I hate roads. I've never ran this much on the road before actually....so that was a first for me. The first 20 miles he was killing it. But, the back of his left leg was cramping a lot. That slowed him down. But, I was there to push him. He would've gotten a lot slower if I wasn't there pushing him to run. It was a good experience. All the other boys were waiting for him at the finish line and ran it in with us. It was a great experience overall. Kinda sucked however getting passed and going slower than I was capable. Oh well.

| Went for a run up Smithfield Dry Canyon today. I've decided that Flat Top is my favorite peak in the valley. So I wanted to go up there one more time before it snowed. For some reason my watch died. There should have been a good 10 hours on it still...I don't know what happened. But on the way up I spotted some bear poop...that was comforting. On the way down, it started to get dark. I stopped running at one point on the way back cause I heard a noise. I listened around and heard an animal walking through the leaves. It would walk whenever I moved but stopped whenever I stopped. I through a rock in the trees hoping it would walk when the rock made a noise...it did move. It definitely was a bigger animal...at that point, I got very afraid and bolted off. The last 20 minutes I was cruising. Very creepy way to end.

The top reminded me of Angels Landing. It was rocky, fairly high up, and thin. With the wind blowing, it was quite freaky a couple of times. But it was awesome. We then headed over to Mt. Elmer. At this point, I was exhausted....so was Cody and Fan. As we turned around to head back, I started out fast....but, as we got further down, Cody and Fan took off...I was very very tired. Great run

| Did a long run with Nuckles today. We went and did my favorite run....the High creek, Naomi, Tony Grove, 7 Sisters, Mt. Elmer and Green Canyon Traverse. The scenery was a lot different this time around. The first time it was green and warm. This time it was dark, white and cold. There was this stupid cloud following us the WHOLE run. It was sunny on our right and left. But the sun never hit us. It was blowing a lot. The trail was snowy at the top and VERY muddy. Even on descents we had to take it slow because it was so slippery. But it was very pretty. High Creek lake was amazing. It was frozen over and the snow added an awesome look to it. After Tony Grove, Nuckles bonked. So I'd run ahead a ways, then stop and wait for him. That slowed us down quite a bit. But it was fun. Good to do this run again before the real snow came.

| Took the day off from work so I could do a trail run with Nuckles. We did BST to Green. Not the best run...the lower half was ICY and the upper half was fresh powder....1 to 2 feet. So we were either slipping or high kneeing it through the snow. Quite a work out.

| Did a speed work out for Thanksgiving. I ran 5 miles as quick as I pretty much could. Went at a 6:10 pace from my house to Hyde Park. That really destroyed my lungs. After that I did a 2 mile cool down. I thought I was running at a 10 minute pace during my cool down but it was actually 8:30....felt super slow compared to 6:10. Good work out though

| Decided I was tired of not getting a long run in on Saturday's. So, I car pooled with a buddy to work today, left 2 hours early, and ran home (back to the south Mcdonalds). I've always wanted to run Sardine Canyon. After trail running, it definitely wasn't that awesome. It is cool to say I ran home from Brigham to Logan though. I was very paranoid the whole time as well....those cars on that highway are moving pretty fast. Good run....yet crappy....the road just destroys my body.

| Woke up and went for a morning run. My legs were pretty tired from running 13 hours earlier and not sleeping well. Went from my house to the BST and ran to the Hydro Park at first dam. It was nice getting my run done in the morning compared to the afternoon. Wish I could do that more often

| Did an easier run today. Kept it pretty average. Did fifteen miles of road and trail. Went from my apartment to the BST and headed up to second dam. I kind of rebelled and took the upper canal trail...I miss that trail. Then I headed down the old canal trail towards the temple. Then I headed north on this trail I've never been on. It's a trail around a bunch of houses. It kind of goes along 8th east. Great run

| Did my long run today. Went from the mouth of green and took the BST/Deer Fence trail all the way over to Blacksmith fork canyon. Also added some road miles to get 27 miles for the day which equaled 60 for the week. I was extremely sore, tired and low on energy. Just felt bonked from mile 1 to the finish. I tripped on a rock and face planted it hard core. So low on energy and tired.

| Did a long run today. My roommate blocked my car in the driveway with his so I decided to just run from my house. Headed up to BST and headed to first dam. Then I took the river trail all the way up tot he wind cave trail and headed up towards Beirneau. Towards the top of that trail it got very muddy and snowy. So, I headed back down and headed towards home. As I got to Green, I still had 3 miles to do in order to get 30. So, I headed 1.5 miles up the Face of Green. BONK! Very tiring. It has been a while since I've done a long run with lots of climbing. Felt good

| Tomorrow is my 25th birthday. So to celebrate, Cody, Fan and myself went for a long run. We were planning on doing just 25 but we threw an extra mile in accidently. We were all very tired. I bonked pretty hard core on the way back (final 4 miles probably). Cody thinks he spotted a Coyote. The run was road and trail with some snow fall. After the run Cody and myself got donuts and chocolate milk. Great post run food and drink. Fun run. Glad Cody suggested it.

Went with Cody, Fan and Alex (I think that is his name....) I was feeling really fresh tonight and was able to go at a fast pace. Lead the whole way over. On the way back, Fan was feeling great and just took off. It was a great run.

| Went to first dam and was going to do a snow run. Had my spikes and everything. But 2 problems arose. 1, the snow was shin deep and I had ankle socks. So, my legs went numb within five minutes. 2, my chain broke....brand new too. I'm having bad luck with my equipment.
