Running Accomplishments:

My very first race was the Top of Utah Half Marathon.  I finished in 01:29:45.  Even though it wasn't amazing, I took 3rd place in my age division which was a huge accomplishment for myself.  After that I did a large amount of 5 and 10K's, Ragnar's, etc.  In 2012 I put together and Ultra Ragnar Team.  After this I started to focus on shorter races and worked towards running track with Utah State University.  As I was getting close to running with the team, I met Cody Draper.  He introduced me to trail running....I'm now a trail runner!  Just did my first ultra marathon two weeks ago...Logan Peak.  I finished in 5th place and got under my goal of 5 hours.  

 

Short-Term Running Goals:

In the next two years, I'd like to run a 50K and a 50 miler.  If those two races go well, I'd like to do the Bear 100 in 2 years from this summer.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'm not sure how much of a goal this is...it's more of a wish that's way towards the stars.  I'd like to eventually get good enough that I have offers to be sponsored as a runner. But my actual long term goals are:

1. A 100 miler   2.  Win an ultra marathon.  3.  Be apart of the 80 year old marathon runner club

I'm single!  The only exciting thing going on in my life is I'm getting into trail running!

Did some more climbing today.  Between lasts night big run and today, I'm pretty dead.  I decided to do the wind caves three times today.  The first time up I was able to run the whole way without walking.  Second time up I walked a couple times.  Third time up I walked five or six times.  I'm not going to complain about my pace with how dead my legs were from last night.  Felt great and had three great views from the top.

Well, today I felt super super sore.  My legs are really feeling it from this week's climbing. Today I only ran eight miles because that's all my legs could handle.  Did the crimson trail twice.  Went east on it the first time.  Once I got to the bottom on the other side I explored a little but then turned around and went right back up to head back.  Boy my calves and legs are sore and tight.  I need to do more climbing in the future.

A super icey,snowy and muddy run means a super slow run.  I started running the wind caves trail and got to the juction that takes you to Beardnue Peak.  I decided to explore and take it.  I should've known it would be super snowy considering the first part of the wind caves was pretty bad.  I hit snow and mud pretty quick on the other trail.  But, I was determined to get to the top.  After slipping and slowly climbing for a while, I decided it wasn't worth it and turned around.  The run back down that part sucked. I was slipping everywhere.  I got to the junction again and decided I might as well run to the caves.  The upper part of this trail wasn't too snowy....just muddy and no good.  So the way down on that part wasn't too fast either.  Once I got to the bottom, I decided to run on the road a little bit and stopped at eight miles.  Not the greatest run.  But, I was able to catch some sweet views.

Did a nice road run. Super slow though.  Still kinda sore from the past week.  Accidently deleated my Garmin before I could upload today's run so I don't have the exact elevation gain or average time.  Great day

Did a fairly flat trail run.  Ran the BST to the new trail to just above second dam.  Went at a fairly great pace.  Weather was great.  Trail wasn't too muddy.  Saw Cody run by me just as I finished my run.  Great run

Today was an ok run.  My 3 weeks of sore throat and coughing is finally catching up to me.  I had no energy and felt so dead.  But it was a good run.  Felt like a good warm summer day.

Did my normal BST to past second dam run.  Today i was able to go at a more fast pace than I've been able to do the past couple weeks.  I think taking saturday off was wise.  But I still feel kinda sick.  My cough and runny nose is still going crazy.  Today my new running buddy Brad joined me.  He's pretty good.  I need to see how he'd do on a longer run though.  But these shorter runs he does great.  Weather was great.  Good run.

Well today was super slow.  My stomach was hurting, nose was running and had my normal cough.  Energy level was slow.  Stayed on the road.  Will post up pace and everything later.

Took Thurs. and Fri off because I felt horrible.  On the verge of puking all day.  No energy to even leave the house.  Tried five easy road miles today.  Went at a pretty good pace considering how my body has been.  Hopefully the sickness is gone.  Pulled ou the Merril's instead of the Brook's.  My calves felt that at the end of the run.

Well I think my sickness is gone...at least the coughing and puky feeling. I had no energy yet again today.  I have hit some sort of wall. The pace wasn't terribly slow according to the Garmin...but I felt like I was going terribly slow...and had to use all energy and even more than what I had to run at the pace I did.  Hopefully tomorrow is better.  Will post pace later.

Ran from my apartment and did part of the face of green.  Went at a good pace.  I actually didn't feel sick.  It felt great!  I think I'm getting better!  Having high hopes.

My legs were super sore today.  Also my ankle is starting to act up again.  Did a super flat road run to take it easy today.  Ran past my old work place...YESCO.  Yeah I definitely don't miss that job.  Even though Cody and Joe are pretty cool... Not too fast.  Ankle hurt throughout.  Hopefully better tomorrow.

Did a fun run with Cody.  We were both super sore and tired so we didn't go too fast.  It was fun because we had a good time exploring!  Just kind of turned left where we felt like it then turned right at the next one.  Super fun!  Really windy and chilly throughout.  Cody got some good pictures.

Last saturday's run was a big day for me!  I made it over 1,000 miles on my brooks (I have been over 1,000 for a bit...that 1,000 miles is just since I've been on the blog).  Today I did a shorter run.  But, a lot more climbing.  Went up Saddleback/reflector peak (south face of green).  Very steep.  A few spots did some rock climbing.  Snowy at the top.  Great view of the valley. I'm mad I forgot my camera.

I think my today's run is worthy to go in the fast miles category.  Definitely the fastest run I've had in a long time.  I think I'm finally getting better and recovering.  Ran the normal BST to just above 2 dam.  Except for mile 2, I kept my times under 7 minute miles.  Felt great.  Temperature wasn't too cold.

Made today a slower, shorter climb day.  Did the north face of green canyon twice.  Pretty tired from going hard last night.  A lot of people were out on the trail today.  I guess everyone is wanting to get a good work out before they stuff their face tonight for thanksgiving.  Saw an elk.  Good run

I had a hard time today trying to figure out if I should put my miles in the "slow" or "fast" category....just kidding.  Very slow run.  Went from first dam, took the BST to green, did the north face of green.  Went further up than usual.  Wanted to get to the summit so Cody and I did some rock climbing, snow shoing....it was pretty epic.  Great views.  Got to the top just in time to see the sun come up.  Way pretty.  My feet are pretty sore right now considering I'm completely destroying the bottom of my shoes.  Went to Al's right after and picked out a new pair of shoes for my mom to get me for chirstmas.  They felt wonderful when I tried them on..but then again, compared to how torn down my shoes are now, the crappiest brand of shoe would feel like I'm wearing a cloud.  With my work schedule I probably won't get a run tomorrow.  Final amount of climbing for the week.... 12,497 ft.  Not bad for five days and for just starting trail's this year.  I'm happy with that.

Ended up running today when I didn't think I'd have time.  Right after work I was planning on heading to the BYU USU game.  But, I had about an hour so I drove to a random trail and ran six miles.  It was actually a good area.  Great climbing.  Next summer when the snow is gone, the trail branched off south of me at one point and kept going up the southern mountain.  Looked like a good killer climb.  Finished off the week strong with 14,597 ft of climbing.  I'd say that is a good week.
